KVPT has compiled an extensive collection of architectural research and documentation, including drawings, maps, models, photographs, publications, and artefacts. In collaboration with the Francis Loeb Library at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, KVPT plans to make these materials available online as part of the Nepal Architecture Archive. The planned Architecture Museum in the recently restored Mulchowk and Sundari Chowk courtyards in Patan will be the physical home of this archive. An extension to the nearby Patan Museum, the Museum will function as a cultural institution to increase public awareness about the role of architecture in society.
In addition to the archive, the Museum will feature temporary exhibitions on all aspects of the built environment of Nepal. Books and periodicals will be available for public use in a reading room and study centre. Part of the museum will serve as a repository for stolen art objects recovered from the global art market. Since some of these objects are still religiously important, they will merely be displayed but will also be available for worship within the Museum setting. This will be the first space dedicated to the protection of stolen art in Nepal.
